La Placa Development is a second-generation, family-owned real estate development and custom home building firm based in Newport Beach, California. For over 40 years, we've built some of the finest homes in Southern California — and we put our family name behind every single one.

As part of The La Placa Group, our vertically integrated approach means we handle everything from property acquisition to custom construction to listing and selling completed homes — all under one roof.

Our Story

In 1973, Gaetano La Placa immigrated from Italy to the United States with nothing but a strong work ethic and a passion for building. In the early years, he swept floors, painted, and assisted on construction sites across Southern California. Over time, Gaetano acquired expert skills and knowledge as a craftsman, designer, and project manager.

In 1985, Gaetano founded La Placa Development and transformed his expertise into a full-service construction firm based in Monrovia, California. The company quickly earned a reputation for integrity, knowledge, and high-quality custom builds.

We incorporated in 1999, and in 2014, we followed our demand and moved operations to Orange County — where we've continued to grow as one of the region's most respected luxury custom home builders and real estate developers.

A Family Legacy

Today, La Placa Development is still hands-on and family-run. Gaetano remains active in every project, assisted by his sons Giovanni and Francis. His wife Sheri manages internal operations, supported by a dedicated full-time staff.

In 2024, the family expanded its vision by forming The La Placa Group — uniting La Placa Development with La Placa Group's investment and brokerage divisions and First Choice Home Sale to offer a fully integrated real estate experience.

As the founder and president, Gaetano truly built La Placa Development from the ground up. His expertise, attention to detail, pursuit of perfection, and advocacy for clients serve as the foundation of the company. After more than 40 years, he remains in the field on every project.

Giovanni La Placa — Partner & Operations

Giovanni grew up learning the business alongside his father. He oversees day-to-day operations and project coordination, ensuring every build meets the La Placa standard from start to finish.

Francis La Placa — Partner & Field Operations

Francis brings hands-on construction expertise to every project. Working alongside Gaetano in the field, he ensures quality control and craftsmanship are maintained at every stage.

Sheri La Placa — Internal Operations

Sheri manages the business side of La Placa Development, from client relations to scheduling and administration, keeping the operation running smoothly behind the scenes.
